Abstract

The text addresses the expansion of agribusiness in MATOPIBA, highlighting problems such as expropriation of local communities, destruction of the ecosystem, pollution, land and water conflicts, among others. The North and Central-West regions of Brazil are the most affected, with the presence of economic agents and public authorities. Matopiba, a region made up of Maranhão, Tocantins, Piauí and Bahia, is marked by intensive agricultural production, especially soy, corn and cotton, resulting in social and environmental inequalities. The State's participation in infrastructure and logistics for agribusiness is mentioned, as is the role of the Military Police in the state of Maranhão. Conflicts and crimes related to agricultural production are discussed, such as land grabbing, deforestation, disputes over water resources and urban crime. It also discusses the formation of militias and the performance of the state Public Force in the region, highlighting the importance of public security and the need to re-signify the police institution, highlighting the need for a relationship between federative units, bodies and society to deal with violence in the countryside and agrarian conflicts.
